AT&T WNBA All-Star 2026 brings the league's showcase weekend to Chicago, splitting the schedule between the United Center and Wintrust Arena. The core is familiar: a skills night, a three-point contest and the All-Star Game itself, with the league's best players rostered by fan, player and media vote.

What makes an All-Star weekend worth traveling for is everything bolted onto the sides. Fan festivals, open practices, autograph windows, youth clinics and league-run community days fill the daytime hours, and most of them cost far less than a game ticket — some are free with registration.

For Chicago, the weekend also functions as a civic audition. The city has hosted NBA All-Star, the NFL Draft and two Lollapalooza-scale summers in the same footprint, and a WNBA weekend at this size is a statement that women's basketball now draws the same infrastructure.

Why Chicago is the right host

The Chicago Sky have one of the league's most engaged fan bases, a 2021 championship banner, and a home court at Wintrust Arena that sits directly inside the McCormick Place convention corridor — meaning the league can run a full fan festival and a game night within a few blocks.

The city also has deep women's basketball roots that predate the WNBA: Big Ten programs within driving distance, a Public League pipeline that has sent players to the pros for decades, and youth leagues on the South and West Sides that treat the sport as a year-round commitment rather than a season.

Tickets, pricing and what sells out first

All-Star Game seats move fastest and price highest; the skills and three-point night is usually the better value and often the better atmosphere, because the arena is looser and the players are miked up.

League fan events sell out on registration rather than price. Those open before the game tickets in most host cities, and they are the ones locals miss because they assume everything is behind a paywall.

Getting between the two arenas

The United Center sits on the Near West Side at 1901 W Madison, served by the CTA 19 and 20 buses and the Blue Line at Illinois Medical District with a walk. Wintrust Arena is at 200 E Cermak in the South Loop, closest to the Green and Red Lines at Cermak.

Driving between them on a weekend afternoon is roughly twenty minutes without traffic and closer to forty-five with an event letting out. Rideshare surges hard at both venues immediately post-buzzer; walking two or three blocks off the arena footprint before requesting a car reliably cuts the fare.

The parties are the other half of the weekend

Chicago's independent event scene treats All-Star weekend the way it treats Lollapalooza — as a reason to program everything at once. Expect brunches, rooftop day parties, women-in-sport panels, sneaker pop-ups and late-night sets, most of them ticketed separately and most selling out within days of announcement.

Late July in Chicago is peak season: the lakefront is open, the festival calendar is full, and the city is at its most walkable. Build in a morning at the lake or the Riverwalk before the arena schedule takes over the afternoon.

For food, the South Loop near Wintrust is convenient but thin. Chinatown is one stop away on the Red Line, Bronzeville is a short ride south, and the West Loop's Randolph Street corridor is walking distance from the United Center side of the weekend.
